The Merrriwa District Progress Association (MDPA) has been proactively lobbying local, state and federal government in a bid to ensure the ongoing operation of Gummun Place. We have done this in the absence of an advisory committee. The previous S355 committee had been disbanded in 2024 and the new Gumman Place Advisory Committee was not formed until early 2025, leaving no formal body to bridge the gap between the Council and the community.
The work the MDPA has done over the last three to four months is now available in a document entitled Gummun Place Report. This report has been formally handed over to the Gummun Place Advisory Committee.
As we move forward our intention is to:
- Continue working with the Gumman Place Advisory Committee
- Continue lobbying government at all levels.
- Continue representing the community
- Continue asking for your help!
Gummun Place Report
The Gummun Place Report was submitted to the Gummun Place Advisory Committee on 14 March 2025. The report contains details regarding:
- the work done by the MDPA between Nov 24 and Feb 25
- information relating to the challenges when operating aged care facilities
- the issues facing Gummun Place today
- results of a questionnaire distributed to Merriwa and the surrounding district
- possible options/solutions (bear in mind the MDPA is not an expert in aged-care facilities or legislation).
